Ryugo Mizuhiki gave a talk entitled “Sensitivity study of electroweakino searches using transformer-based electroweak boson identification in the ATLAS experiment” at the 81st Annual Meeting of the Physical Society of Japan, held at the University of Tokyo’s Komaba Campus.

At the 81st Annual Meeting of the Physical Society of Japan, held at the University of Tokyo’s Komaba Campus, Junpei gave a talk entitled “The evolution of the ATLAS trigger: challenges at the high-luminosity frontier” in the symposium “LHC-ATLAS: the path to 500 fb⁻¹ and the frontiers of hadron colliders”.
Installation of the new TGC PS boards is progressing well
All new TGC PS boards were installed on C-side M1 of the ATLAS TGC Big Wheel on 29 August.

Research activities
ATLAS begins decommissioning and installation work for the HL-LHC
With LHC Run 3 complete, ATLAS has entered the decommissioning and installation phase of its High-Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) upgrade. During Long Shutdown 3 (LS3), major work will include replacing the inner tracker, adding a new timing detector and upgrading the trigger, readout and computing systems. The ATLAS TGC system was the first to begin upgrade work, and work started immediately. The TGC installation work will continue through the end of December in collaboration with five research institutions in Japan, including Kobe University.
Invited talk “Development of AI trigger on FPGA for High Energy Physics experiments” at Design Gaia 2025
At Design Gaia 2025 – A New Land for VLSI Design, held at the Toyama International Conference Center, Junpei gave the invited talk “Development of AI trigger on FPGA for High Energy Physics experiments”.
Junpei presented the poster “Enhancing the ATLAS Level-1 endcap muon trigger with New Small Wheel integration in Run 3” at the 13th Large Hadron Collider Physics Conference (LHCP2025), held on May 5–9 at the GIS NTU Convention Center in Taipei, Taiwan, and received a Poster Award. The poster was presented on May 6, and the award ceremony took place on May 9.

Awards
Received the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics as a member of ATLAS
As members of the ATLAS Collaboration, Junpei and 21 others affiliated with Kobe University shared in the 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics. The prize honoured the ALICE, ATLAS, CMS and LHCb collaborations for their research using LHC Run 2 data. The award ceremony took place in Los Angeles on 5 April.
Project selected for the “Learning Physics” grant programme
The project “Establishing deep-learning triggers using heterogeneous computing in particle physics” was selected for a publicly offered grant within the “Learning Physics” area of Grant-in-Aid for Transformative Research Areas (A). The project explores the use of deep learning on FPGA accelerators for particle physics triggers.
Talk at DSPN2022, an online course for high-school students
Junpei gave a talk on taking data in particle physics, big data and data science at Tokyo Institute of Technology's DSPN online course. Junpei also introduced international research collaboration and his computing experience as a student.
Selected for Kobe University's international joint research support program (Type A)
A Graduate School of Science support program awarded travel funding for Tatsuya Nakamura and Koya Toji to work at CERN.

Participation in ATLAS TDAQ Week in Heidelberg
Junpei attended the ATLAS trigger and data acquisition meeting at Heidelberg University on September 19–23, presenting a new trigger concept for slow-moving charged particles.

Seminar
Particle physics seminar by Tomohiro Inada
Tomohiro Inada, a postdoctoral researcher at Tsinghua University, gave a seminar on searches for new physics in the far-forward region with the LHC-FASER experiment.
We attended the September 6–8 meeting at Okayama University of Science. Junpei gave an invited talk on new-physics searches through trigger improvements at 13.6 TeV. Tatsuya Nakamura and Koya Toji also presented their work on muon triggers.
Joined a KAKENHI Scientific Research (B) project as a co-investigator
A project led by Hideyuki Oide was awarded funding to explore higher energy scales through advances in tracking and triggering. It aims to improve discovery potential for slow-moving charged particles, starting at the hardware level.
